We are all sinners.
All of us have done at least one thing wrong. We have all lied at some point, disobeyed, or stolen.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
-Romans 3:23
God is perfect, and cannot have sin in His presence. As a matter of fact, He punishes all wrong that we do.
For the wages of sin is death;
-Romans 6:23a
That death is eternal separation from God in Hell. It is our penalty for sin and the wrong things that we do. It is also the penalty for just one wrong thing that we have done. Just imagine trying to pay for one sin with an eternity in Hell! And that is just for one sin! Now, we have all done more than one wrong thing. Seems quite impossible to get into Heaven doesn’t it?
What does the entire verse say?
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
-Romans 6:23
Ah! There is a way out! God is giving us the gift of eternal life! But how do I get it? The Bible says I get it through Jesus Christ. What did He have to say about it?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
-John 14:6
Well, Jesus said he was the way to Heaven, but what does He say about how I can get to Heaven?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
-John 3:16
How do I get this gift of everlasting life? I believe? Is it that simple? Do I believe that there is a God? What do I need to believe? And how was He able to give me this gift?
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
- I Corinthians 15:3-4
You see, Christ took your place on the cross for your sins. That is why He had to die. He was paying our penalty for the sins that we have committed. Then He rose again after three days, showing that His payment for our sins was accepted by God.
So then that means everyone can go to heaven, right? Yes. Everyone may, if they trust in Christ to get them there.
You have a choice: You can trust in Christ’s work on the cross, and His payment for your sins to get you to Heaven, or you could try to do it your own way and fail.
If you did trust in Christ, why don’t you pray and thank Him for your salvation?
